The Aftermath of Category 5 Typoon, Rai

On average, 20 typhoons hit the Philippine Islands every year. Super Typhoon Rai in 2021 (Category 5), was the third super typhoon to pass over the Philippines in just 2 years. Rai went directly over the island of Cebu, causing extreme damage in the north. Close to 400 people died and more than three million people were affected. In some areas, electricity was out for two months and clean water was not available for many weeks. Devastation was everywhere. Change Your Stars contacted friends living in Cebu to assess the needs of their communities. We partnered with international nonprofit, Rise and Rebuild, to provide sheet metal for needed repairs. Additionally, Change Your Stars arranged for hygiene kits, water, rice, and emergency supplies to be purchased and distributed in Tailsay and Cebu. With the help of locals on the ground, we were able to help more than 500 people struggling in the aftermath of the typhoon.
